There is the full line of Aeronautics and basic research that occurs. I don't think that many private industries would be willing to share their research work as much as NASA has. Yes, I agree that NASA is a bureaucracy; but it doesn't have to be that way if the American PUBLIC says so. Don't forget that *WE* are the bosses of those on Capitol hill who control the purse strings.
